How To Decorate Your Home For Winter (Without Getting Festive) *
There's no denying that autumn is over and winter is no longer coming....it's arrived (and if you didn't get the GOT reference then shame on you.) With the colder temperatures setting in and the persistent rain we're having at the moment, staying in is the new going out. Gone are the hazy summer nights by the beach and back are the hearty meals piled with gravy and a cosy film in blankets.
Since our Halloween decorations went back in their boxes a few weeks ago our living room has been looking pretty bare. We'd quickly got used to all the lanterns and trinkets around the TV a and when they were gone Christmas trees looked a long time away.
With that in mind, our love of seasonal decorations and with excellent timing from Talking Tables, I came up with a few ways of decorating your home for winter - without getting too Christmassy too early (says the biggest lover of Christmas ever).
1. Fairy Lights.
So this might be the biggest blogger sin ever but I don't really have fairy lights unless it's autumn/winter. I know some people have them all year round but I am very much a leave the windows and curtains open all summer and the fairy lights only make their way out of the cupboards when it starts getting dark at 4pm. Fairy lights everywhere should be your main priority when it comes to decorating for the cold seasons but stick to static ones, twinkly ones feel far too festive for me.
2. White & Silver.
Gold tones is very much an autumnal vibe in my opinion so when it came to selecting products for winter I went on a very white/silver theme. It just feels that little bit colder and I replaced all my LED tealights with blue light over orange to match. Whilst I do have a mini tree and polar bear accessories it just screams snow and ice not Santa and Rudolph.
3. Pinecones.
Pinecones are my new fav accessory. I have silver, white and snowy pinecones in a silver basket on top of my fire, pinecone fairy lights on my window sill and pinecone tealight holders in front of my TV. They're so subtly seasonal without being Christmassy at all and they are my must have for 2017.
4. Minimalism.
I think the key to decorating for winter not for Christmas is keeping it simple. Save your twinkly lights and your baubles and your glitter for the middle of December and for now, stick to minimalistic colour tones and muted shades. I am all about that monochrome life for most of the year until it comes to the festive season and my theme for winter decoration is no different. Don't go overboard but simply add a few seasonal touches to brighten up your evenings in.
5. Cosy vibes.
You basically want to make your home into the cosiest place ever when it comes to adding some winter touches. I only decorated our living room because it's the room we spend most of our evenings in. Drape fairy lights over everything, get all your candles out and find all the decor you need to satisfy your need until Christmas with Talking Tables.
