Monthly Themes | Bullet Journal Inspiration

Stop the presses, the rumours are true, yes I am actually (attempting) to knock 5 days of bullet journal content out the park to make up for the months and months I haven’t created any when you’ve all been asking.

Today’s post is nice and simple to ease us back into this familiar routine we’ve inhabited - today we are talking monthly themes.

2018 - The year I added colour to my bujo….

(and never looked back)

Monthly themes is something I’ve only tried this year and it was mainly down to my new love of colour when I’ve had an exclusively black and white bujo thus far, and also down to my obsession with my real life Pinterest boards.

I’ve always struggled with what to put on the first page of a bullet journal, much like those nerves you get on the first page of a new notebook at school. This year I decided early on I wanted to create a mood board for the first page and went with a new years theme - think Gatsby and all things sparkly. I created a little border of images, whacked a handwritten title on and instantly fell in love.

I’ve not really created a ‘title’ page or much to separate the months in old journals, preferring to move seamlessly from one to the other but liking my 2018 title page so much I decided to try monthly themes in the same style and boy am I glad I did.

I have chosen monthly themes based more around colour than anything else and have really enjoyed sourcing the pictures and making it all fit. I tend to start with a ‘hello’ to the month, some seasonal flowers and some nail varnish in the matching colour and then scour my ‘most recently pinned’ section of Pinterest to find elements that work.

I went grey for January, baby pink and love hearts for February, blue for March, yellow tones and flowers for April/Spring, deep pinks and purples for May, green for June, bright yellow with lots of white and travel for June and orange for August. I hadn’t created my September spread by the time I photographed this but I completed it this weekend and it’s all burnt red and lots of white space and might be my fav yet.

I don’t really follow the theme into the rest of the month like I know some people do so well (Hannah Emily Lane and Chxrlotte Rose to name just two) but I like having it there alongside my master to do list for the month to create a clean slate for the next 30 odd days.
